Let’s start with some highlights of the Sonic Mighty and technical specifications that make this printer a standout choice:

8K Resolution LCD Screen

The printer screen offers an impressive 7680 x 4320 pixel resolution with XY resolution of 28 microns, which translates into incredibly fine detail and accuracy in the final prints. This is especially beneficial for intricate designs, small details and small object like miniatures that might get lost on other printers.

Build Volume

With a build volume of 218 mm x 123 mm x 23.5 mm, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K can handle large prints with ease. This is particularly useful for printing bigger models or batches of smaller ones. Unless you plan to print very large objects or construction parts, the build volume is more than sufficient for most printing needs.

Compatible Resins

The printer is compatible with a wide range of third-party resins, including those specifically designed for high-detail prints. This flexibility in resin choice allows you to experiment with different materials and find the perfect fit for your models.

Printing Speed

With a print speed of up to 70 mm/hour, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K is on the faster side under resin printers on the market. This can significantly reduce the time it takes to print complex models, making it an attractive option for those looking to increase their printing output.

User Interface

The 5-inch printer’s touch panel is also bigger than the screens of his competitors. The navigation is intuitive and user-friendly, making it easy to find and adjust settings as needed.

I’ll dive deeper in the user interface in the next section.

Moreover, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty boasts Solid Dual Linear Rails and a Thick T-Plate that work together to ensure that the print bed moves smoothly and precisely during the printing process. This precise movement is essential for achieving a smooth and even surface, as it helps to eliminate wobbling and reduce the appearance of layer lines.

The Linear Projection LED Module is another interesting feature of the printer. It’s designed to provide consistent UV projection that cures the resin evenly. This means that the resin is cured uniformly across the entire print bed, resulting in prints that have a smooth surface and excellent detail.

The recommended slicer for the printer is Chitubox, but of course, you can choose any other slicer software that is dedicated to resin printers like Lychee.

Now I’ve showed you the main benefits and the most powerful features. Let’s dive deeper into the usability and the overall impression of the machine.

Usability

Sonic Mighty without the plastic case.

Setting it up the printer is pretty straightforward, and the quality of the materials used for the box makes a good impression.

As already, mentioned, the 5-inch touch panel serves as the primary user interface for controlling the printer and monitoring the printing process. The touch panel also displays helpful information about the printing process, including print progress, remaining time, and other important parameters.

The printer also comes with a range of pre-programmed print profiles for different resins, which made it easy to achieve optimal print quality without needing to fiddle with settings manually. Additionally, you’ll find more resin profiles on the homepage of Phrozen.

You can store the printer basically everywhere thanks to it practical dimensions, which I’ve mentioned above.

Well, the high-quality materials used to build the printer make it sturdy, but also a bit heavy and less portable.

The Phrozen GO is an App for all Phrozen printers developed by the manufacturer to monitor and control the printing process, capture images, and maintain a comprehensive history of prints.

Ressources

In this regard, Phrozen is definitely good at providing help and guides to his products.

The website is full of resources and the help center will assist you to solve the main challenges you’d face with the printer.

From resin profiles and ideal resin settings, to test models and user guides, they offer a good source of information to start the journey with their printers.

The Facebook group Phrozen Sonic Mighty Series with 5.8k members is probably the busiest place to get inspiration and find other users to exchange experiences with.

You can also get technical support using the #techsupport hashtag.

Pros and Cons

As with any 3D printer, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K Resin 3D Printer has its strengths and weaknesses.

Here are some of the pros and cons that stood out during my testing:

Pros

  • High-Resolution Prints: The 8K resolution screen for incredibly fine detail and accuracy in the final prints
  • Large Build Volume: The printer’s spacious build volume is ideal for those looking to print larger models or batches of smaller ones more efficiently
  • Fast Printing Speeds: One of the faster resin printer on the market
  • User-Friendly Interface: The touch screen interface is intuitive and easy to use
  • Compatibility with Third-Party Resins: The Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K Resin 3D Printer is compatible with a wide range of third-party resins
  • Delivered with free 2 x Phrozen Aqua 8K Resin worth $79.98
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • High quality materials

Cons

  • Price: The Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K Resin 3D Printer is priced higher than many other resin printers on the market, which may make it less accessible for those on a budget.
  • Noise: This printer is relatively loud during operation, which could be a concern for those who need to keep noise levels to a minimum in their workspace.
  • Limited Warranty: The printer’s warranty is limited to one year, which may be a concern for those who want longer-term protection for their investment. Even though a one-year warranty is the industry standard, considering the premium price, I’d expect a longer warranty period. Also, the 8K LCD warranty is covered only for 3 months.
  • Can only read CTB files
  • A bit heavy

Overall, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K Resin 3D Printer has many strengths that make it an attractive choice for 3D printing techies looking to create high-resolution, complex models quickly and efficiently.

However, it’s important to consider the cons as well and decide whether the printer’s features and performance outweigh its drawbacks for your specific needs.

Comparison with Similar Models

The world of 8K resin printers is still in the early stage.

Like the producer of our Sonic Mighty, other manufacturers have made significant progress in developing LCD and MSLA technologies in recent years.

I’ve decided to put two main competitors, besides the one from the Sonic family: Anycubic Photon M3 Max and Elegoo Saturn 2 8K.

Anycubic Photon M3 Max

XY Resolution7680 x 4320 px (28.5 micron)

Printing Speed30-70 mm/h

In terms of screen resolution, both the Phrozen Sonic Mighty and Elegoo Saturn 2 offer an 8K resolution screen, while the Anycubic Photon M3 Max has a 7K resolution screen.

The Anycubic Photon M3 Max has the largest build volume of the three printers, making it a good choice for those looking to print larger models.

However, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K Resin 3D Printer and Elegoo Saturn 2 both offer faster printing speeds, up to 80 mm/hour, compared to the Anycubic Photon M3 Max’s 60 mm/hour.

The Elegoo Saturn 2 and Anycubic Photon M3 Max both have a 4.3-inch touch screen pannel, while the Phrozen Sonic Mighty has a bigger 5-inch touch screen.

The pricing comes here as the biggest differentiator. While the Anycubic is the most expensive (of ourse, is the largest one) at $959.00, the Elegoo is the cheapest one with arround $535.

Now, these are the main differences between the competitors.

If high-resolution printing and fast print speeds are a priority, the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K or Elegoo Saturn 2 8K would be a good choice.

If a larger build volume is more important, the Anycubic Photon M3 Max would be the better option.

But when it comes to price/value ratio, my favorite is the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K. The quality of the prints is slightly better than those of his competitors.

However, all three printers are highly regarded in the 3D printing community and offer impressive performance and features.

Conclusion

As always, I advise everyone to do his own research before making the decision.

The part of my job is always to check out what other people say about the product.

And the feedbacks are very similar to my review.

If you’re looking for a good quality, durable and practical solution to print models for yourself or to print nice prototypes, then the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K is definitely value for the price you’ll pay.

I hope this review has helped you to make a first impression of the Mighty.
